Call to Arms!
The Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more.
If you love history, and love fighting, the local San Diego SCA kingdoms include the Barony of Calafia, which is part of the larger, Southern California Kingdom of Caid is the place for you. Membership is not mandatory to attend, however, to become a member of the SCA there is an annual $35.00 for fee which reduces the costs of events. For more information on the SCA visit http://www.sca.org/
Each year, the Portrero Wars are scheduled for fine entertainment in the fashion of historical re-enactment, feasting and more. You will see events of Archery, Rapier, Jousting, Heavy Weapons fighting, all in-period and historically correct in their presentation. Costumes, food, even the shelters are re-produced as closely as possible to the historical period being represented.
