Breaking News!!!! Jade Dragon to Storm Ft. Langley
The Pirate Crew of the Jade Dragon is rumoured to be planning a secret raid on the Fort! Scheduled for September 12th, a challenge has been sent to the Fort Traders to see who can really “Talk Like a Pirate”…Will the Crew be repelled by the Traders of Fort Langley or will a well-earned reward of a day of Shore Leave be reconnoitered. Methinks the shore leave is in the offing and friends and family should be waiting to mingle among the crew for games, contests, tests of skill and prizes for all! Read More about this soon to occur event Here.
Greetings from the B.C. Renaissance Festival, Christina Carr and her Command Team
Not Long ago the Karima Hurrem as the Faire Reporter delivered to you, Dear Readers, news of the 2009 British Columbia Renaissance Festival (BCRF) which occurred this year on July 17th, 18th and 19th at the Aldor Acres Farm, Fort Langley. And what a successful festival it was.
In keeping with our desire to be your eyes and ears, to be the smallest dragon fly upon the tunic of yon Knight, my dear Lovers of Faire, so that ye might be informed of the activities, gossip, news, and darkest secrets of these amazingly pleasing events, we now have news of the Pirate Crew of the Jade Dragon, and the doings of the July BCRF event. Huzzah!
This year, at BCRF, visitors were transported to the year 1510, not long after Steller’s Grove was visited by King James and Queen Margaret of Scotland as well as disrupted by the pirates of the Jade Dragon. Pirates, Royalty, Scandal, and more in this merry free-for-all were presented in fine fashion for one and all.
As you may well imagine, with Pirates a muck, and Royals at arms, adventure was the word of the day. Might we, at this time, offer our deepest congratulations and felicitations to this amazing team of performers, vendors, producers, and organizers of the BCRF who worked so hard to make this possible.

As told to us by Christina Carr, the 2009 and BCRF event was a tremendous success. Boasting (with genteel modesty) Christina shares that attendance was up from last year’s numbers, with great feedback from attendees, and solid commitments from crew and vendors. Many thanks are extended to the supporting community who attended the BCRF.
This year was not without challenges, shares Christina. However, BCRF, pirate flag waving on the mast of the Jade Dragon, raised her sails and headed into the wind, overcoming local commuting issues as toll roads were installed, and rigid regulations imposed by Canadian Border officials created havoc for Canadian bound vendors. Customs regulations affecting vendors coming across our shared borders have made it difficult in recent years, and this year Quicksilver Smith, after an appearance at Bite of Seattle, was denied entry into Canada after 2 attempts due to a paperwork snafu. Penumbra Fantasy Faire of Enumclaw, WA Producer, and Director of the Seattle Knights, Dameon Willich: agrees that rigid positions on trade, and performing artists are helping no one, and hopes that the Canadian and U.S. governments will soon come to some resolve.
The BCRF has big plans for the future
Performers and staff have committed to the 2010 faire season, and plans are already underway to provide a fantastic experience for one and all at their current location at Aldor Acres Farm, in Fort Langley, B.C.
Along with her plans to spend time this summer at the upcoming Portland Pirate Festival *, where world records will be set to exceed the largest gathering of pirates in these North Americas, and Penumbra Faire** being sponsored via the Seattle Knights, Christina will again be using a large number of volunteer staff at BCRF next year, many of whom are seasoned performers from the B.C. area. Additionally, she will be increasing her Command team with an additional slot for Intern Producer. Learn more about Festival Production.
On the road to success
Thankful for the successful venue at Aldor Farms, continuing loyalty from the community, and terrific staff of volunteers, Christina is looking for Angel investment for the BCRF. Although there are many interested investors in the Ft. Langley, Vancouver community, as it often goes, with investment comes a desire for artistic control. Direction, says Christina, is not what is needed for the community. Creativity, innovation, and a new approach to festival entertainment is what will bring success.
Christina feels strongly that the BCRF represents a successful business model that brings benefit to the community and provides entertainment, goods, and services that are not readily available to the Canadian public. While strengthening her ties with United States renaissance faires, such as the Washington Renaissance Fantasy Faire (WRFF), and Florida (visit GCRF), her main objective is serving the Ft. Langley community with quality entertainment with a historical flair while introducing the best of the Renaissance performance and arts community from Canada and the United States. Feeling Sassy? Looking to get involved? Contact Christina to find out more of what you can do to be part of this positive energy project.
